A few weeks ago we had bought a brand-new bag of sawdust shavings. We were getting baby chicks and wanted to be ready. We didn’t really think anything of leaving the bag of sawdust in the kitchen until we found a more permanent home for it – that was – until Turner discovered the bag! He decided that it would be fun to play with! This is what I found in the kitchen – a happy boy with a chocolate face and a floor full of sawdust!
So, instead of yelling (or crying!) about the mess, I decided we would make a game out it. We decided to use the sawdust for sensory play!
I looked around the house for things the kids could find in the sawdust. I used a variety of items such as small toys, small plastic eggs with candy inside, jewellery, crayons and small flashlights.
We moved out to the patio so I could clean up the mess all over the kitchen floor. The kids loved it!
Can you find any hidden items?
This kept my kids busy for over 20 minutes. They found and reburied the items over and over. They even added a few of their own items.
A new Shopkins even made it’s way into the sawdust!
We had lots of fun playing and it was such a simple activity. All you need is a container, sawdust and toys!
