Last week I joined up with Mama Kat’s writing prompts and wrote a post about my five favorite romance movies. But, being a hopeless romantic, I had such a hard time narrowing it down to five that I just had to make another list. Here are five more of my favorite romance movies.
~ 1) P.S. I Love You:
I can’t believe I forgot this movie on my last post. I can watch it over and over again and I cry like a baby every time. Hilary Swank’s husband passes away but he leaves her a series of letters to read after his memorial service. The letters lead her on a journey to rediscover herself. He truly is her soul-mate and he knows exactly how she will be feeling without him. Gerard Butler and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are easy on the eyes and the Irish scenery is beautiful.
~ 2) Dirty Dancing:
This is a classic and really needs no explanation. Everyone loves Dirty Dancing! The evolution of ‘Baby’ from a sheltered daddy’s girl into a sophisticated young women is a classic story line but with dancing, 80’s music and a very sexy Patrick Swayze. I can’t decide if my favorite part is the montage of her learning to dance, the lift in the water or the last dance. What girl hasn’t dreamed of performing that dance at some point in her life? Here it is, just so you can watch it again.
~ 3) The Notebook:
The Notebook is based on a book by Nicolas Sparks and tells the story of two young people fighting against many obstacles in their lives to finally end up together. When she develops alzheimers later in life, he stands by her side, reading the story of their love to her everyday. Make sure you have tissues ready. The ending is definitely my favorite part. What a strong bond these two have.
~ 4) Jerry Maguire:
I fell in love with this movie the first time I watched it. Tom Cruise and Renee Zellweger don’t seem like a compatible couple, but they are really so cute together. This movie brought us memorable quotes like “you complete me”, “show me the money!!” and “you had me at hello”. Jonathan Lipnicki is adorable as Ray and Cuba Gooding Jr. has a pretty nice locker room scene. I haven’t watched this movie for awhile so I think it’s time to haul out the old DVD.
~ 5) Pretty Woman:
Julia Roberts and Richard Gere are fabulous together in this classic movie. (They are also great together in Runaway Bride.) A young prostitute is bought for the weekend by a rich millionaire and transformed into a beautiful, sophisticated woman to fit in with his life style. (I have dreamed of having a makeover scene like this in real life – a handsome man passes over his credit card and you get to buy tons of clothes, have your hair done and emerge a completely different version of yourself. It’s a nice fantasy, but that’s part of why I love romantic movies. They make you believe in love, fairy tales and happy endings.) Pretty Woman was a Cinderella story come to life and is considered one of the first successful romantic comedies. It was nominated for 4 Golden Globes and Julia Roberts was nominated for lead actress at the Academy Awards.
A few movies that didn’t make the list but deserve recognition are Grease (which I love!), How to Loose a Guy in 10 Days and The Time Traveller’s Wife. Can you think of anything else to add to this list? I may need to write another post! LOL
