Today is the first day of the 2017 40 Bags in 40 Days Challenge!
This challenge has been put on by Ann Marie at White House Black Shutters since 2011 and this is my third time joining in. Last year I dropped the ball a bit. I did reach the 40 bag goal, but it took be longer than the 40 days because of some personal issues that took most of my time and energy. But this year I am back at it full swing and am so excited to start. My goal this year is 80 bags. Yes, 80! Two years ago I reached 70 bags within 40 days and it felt so good to get all of that junk out of my house! I felt so much lighter afterwards. Unfortunately the clutter has accumulated again so it is time for another big purge.
Don’t stress if you think you can’t reach the 40 bags. A “bag” doesn’t have to be a large garbage bag. A bag can be any size, depending on the area you are cleaning. If you are cleaning out your medicine cabinet and get a ziploc bag full of old medication to return to the pharmacy, that counts as a bag. If you are cleaning out craft supplies and only fill a grocery bag, that still counts as a bag. And it doesn’t have to be a physical bag. Getting rid of an old shelf or an old couch can count. Digital decluttering works as well. Cleaning out an overflowing inbox, weeding through old contacts and emails, or unsubscribing from those newsletters you never read help you feel free from digital junk. Anything you can do to clean, purge or get rid of the clutter in your life, no matter what that clutter maybe, counts towards getting your life in order.
You can join in with the challenge by following along with White House Black Shutters (Ann Marie) on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Be sure to use the hashtag #40bagsin40days. (I have been a member of the Facebook group for a few years now and the people there are so supportive. It’s nice knowing that you can share your progress, no matter how embarrassing the before pictures are, and get encouragement and support from others that have been there, too.)
For more information on the challenge, to learn about the daily email course or to download a helpful printable to track your decluttering progress go to White House Black Shutters and say hi to Ann Marie.
The 2017 Challenge starts March 1st and goes to April 15th.
