Welcome! My name is Jenessa Mullen and I am so excited that you are visiting my blog. I started as a closet blogger a few years ago, blogging privately about my everyday life and the ups and downs of depression. Now I am ready to start fresh, with a new public blog, where I can be open about day to day struggles in motherhood, depression and, well, just being human. I want this blog to be open and honest. I will talk about good days and bad days, I will talk honestly, I will admit when I make mistakes and yes, my kids will probably have dirty faces in the photos. This is motherhood in real life, after all.
Georgia is our youngest daughter and is just finishing her first year of school. Born in 2008, she is 8 years younger than Dakota, and to compare the two is like comparing night and day. Where Dakota is quiet and a bit shy, Georgia is loud and out-going. She loves school, hanging out with her friends and “running the roads”. She is always asking to go for sleepovers or play dates, and rarely spends an entire weekend at home. She is my explorer, my sensory-orientated child and you will see lots of posts about her messes and adventures. She loves Spider-man, the Wiggles, Ross Lynch and playing cards.
At 3 years old, Turner is our youngest and our only boy. He is rough and tough, but also kind and loving. He still loves to snuggle with Momma when he’s sleepy, but don’t try to keep him from playing “Power Rangers” or “Fireman” with the bigger kids. He loves Batman, trucks, tractors, motorcycles and pretend play. He collects rocks, chases birds and has a great imagination. I’m sure you will be hearing a lot more about him as we attempt the much dreaded “P” word – potty-training.
Matt & I started dating on June 18, 1999 and were married on the same date, 6 years later. This June will mark our 10th wedding anniversary – and our 16th year together. Matt is the love of my life – but he also drives me crazy! He knows exactly how to push my buttons and purposely leaves his dresser drawers open or his shirts and sweaters tangled together on the bedroom floor, just because it drives me nuts. He works full time as a parts and service manager at a local auto mechanics, he is a member of the local fire department, he has a fondness for Mustangs and he drives his motorcycles a bit too fast. And what they say about opposites is true – Matt & I both have such different interests and personalities. But we do share one important similarity – the desire to raise our children in the small town where we were born and raised, in hopes that they will grow to be kind, respectful and caring adults.
I have a diploma in Early Childhood Studies and over 15 years childcare experience. I recently closed my home daycare to begin a new career as a program support assistant. I am addicted to junk food, I am trying desperately to give up Pepsi, I love romance novels and anything else that gives me an excuse not to do the housework. You will find me on Facebook and Pinterest, but I am slowly getting used to Twitter and Google+. I have had ups and downs with depression my entire life, but I am currently fighting what seems like a daily battle. And my house is always messy, loud, chaotic and full of love – that’s why this is mothering in real life.
I hope you enjoy your time here. You can always get to know us better by reading past posts, or follow along with my quest to become a better me. I will continue to share adventures in my mothering journey and I hope you will share here, as well.
